Free
Conflict Resolution-Related Resources
for Trainers and Practitioners

As you pursue training and intervention efforts designed to promote more constructive conflict processes, we thought that you might be interested in an update on the many free resources currently available from CRInfo (www.CRInfo.org), the Conflict Resolution Information Source. CRInfo offers a free, online information clearinghouse, indexing more than 25,000 conflict resolution and peace-related Web pages, books, articles, audiovisual materials, organizational profiles, events, and current news articles.

The system provides access to information on 600 conflict resolution-related topics. Typical entries for each topic include: short definitions, "executive summary" articles, short lists of recommended readings, full bibliographies, and, occasionally, news articles.

Among the many specific resources currently available are the following:

  1. A browse system which organizes our 600 topics into a series of categories, including conflict causes and dynamics, the different types of conflict, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) strategies (negotiation, mediation, and arbitration), and peace processes (peacekeeping, peacemaking, peacebuilding, and violence prevention).
  2. Information about ADR, conflict and peace-related jobs and careers.
  3. Higher education programs and materials in ADR, conflict, and peace.
  4. Searchable catalogs of 2000 ADR, conflict, and peace organizations.
  5. "Executive summary"-type overview essays on 400 key topics (including many from our partner project, Beyond Intractability, available at:
    http://www.beyondintractability.org).
  6. Approximately 600 summaries of important, conflict-related books and articles that are otherwise not available online.
  7. Recommended readings on 425 topics from our panel of editors.
  8. An easy-to-use, but powerful search engine covering the entire field, not just our website.
  9. A variety of tools and resources designed to help educators and students take full advantage of the information available through CRInfo.
  10. Tips for others, such as adversaries, bystanders, and practitioners on how to get the most out of CRInfo.

In addition to CRInfo's many affiliated projects, there are a variety of valuable resources available on our sister website, Beyond Intractability (www.beyondintractability.org), including, for example:

These, and many other, resources are available from our home page. To make things a little easier to find, we've created a special version of this page that highlights, by number, links to the items listed above:
http://www.crinfo.org/c-index-general-brochure.jsp

We've also included a HTML version of this e-mail and posted a copy at:
http://www.crinfo.org/c-general-brochure.jsp

While everything is freely available, we are asking users who can afford it to make a small donation to defray the cost of system operation. Now that the Hewlett Foundation (which funded creation of CRInfo) has withdrawn from the field, we are depending on these small contributions to keep the system operating. More information can be found on our "Request for Support" page:
http://www.crinfo.org/about/support.jsp

Finally, we'd really appreciate any help you could give us in publicizing the system's availability (by forwarding this e-mail to potentially interested colleagues and students, for example, or by sending us suggestions of people and organizations who we should contact).
